Write about a fear you have overcome.

One fear I’ve overcome is the fear of messing up in lacrosse. When I first started playing, I was nervous about dropping the ball, missing a shot, or letting my team down. But over time, I realized that mistakes are part of the game and the only way to get better is by pushing through them. Now, I play with more confidence and focus on improving instead of being afraid.

Prompt: As you grow older and face new experiences, what issue or topic do you think you'll have to stand up and debate most often, whether with friends, family, or society

As I grow older, I think the topic I’ll have to debate most often is politics. Everyone has different opinions, and political discussions can quickly become heated especially with friends and family. I believe it's important to stay informed and speak up when I see something unfair or harmful being supported. Even if it's uncomfortable, standing up for what I believe is right will matter more as I get older.

Write about a truth you were afraid to accept.

A truth I was afraid to accept was that Santa Claus wasn’t real. For years, I loved the magic of Christmas and the excitement of believing someone was flying around the world bringing joy. But as I got older, the little clues started adding up, and I eventually realized it was my parents all along. It was hard to let go of the magic, but I’ve learned that the spirit of giving is real even if Santa isn’t.

Prompt: Write about a time when you were judged unfairly.

When I first joined a club lacrosse team, a lot of the players assumed I wasn’t very good because they hadn’t seen me play before. I could tell by the way they didn’t pass to me at practice or gave me looks when I messed up once. But I stayed focused, worked hard, and gave it my all every drill, every scrimmage. Eventually, I earned their respect by showing my skill on the field, and now I’m one of the starters.

Imagine you are learning about Hispanic/Latino heritage for the very first time. What would you be curious to know about the traditions, foods, music, or celebrations?

If I were learning about Hispanic/Latino heritage for the first time, I would be curious to know what traditional foods are most popular in different countries. I’d want to learn how music like salsa or mariachi plays a role in celebrations. I’d also be interested in how holidays like Día de los Muertos or quinceañeras are celebrated. It would be cool to know how families pass down traditions through generations.

After viewing your classmates’ poem posters, select one presentation that caught your attention. Describe what you enjoyed about it or something new you learned from their work.

I was not there during the presentations.

In “The Interlopers” by Saki, Ulrich and Georg view each other as interlopers, outsiders intruding on their land and their lives. Think about a time when you felt like an interloper or when someone else felt out of place in your world. How did that situation affect relationships, emotions, or outcomes?

One time I felt like an interloper was when I moved to a new school and didn’t know anyone. Everyone already had their own friend groups, and I felt like I didn’t belong. At first, it made me feel isolated and nervous to talk to people. Over time, though, one person reached out, and that small act helped me slowly build real friendships.

Of today’s 15 vocabulary words, which three do you think you will use the most in your speaking and writing this semester? Explain why each word feels useful or powerful to you.

I was not in class during this so I didn't learn any of the vocab words. Im gonna use the word claim instead. I think I will use claims a lot this year in class because of the eassys we are writing. Claims help a lot in my writing and help me build up a argument.
